Company profiles that created football teams

There are a few corporations that have founded large football clubs, and this post will discuss a few.

In the French Ligue 1, AS Saint-Etienne was established by certainly one of the biggest supermarket and retailer companies in France, which is now managed by Jean-Charles Naouri. What started as a small business idea in the late 19th century, is now one of the largest companies in France. The football club has grown in a similar fashion; having

won ten league titles and finishing second in the European cup, they are among the greatest clubs in France. The club and business have become less interconnected over time, therefore the only link they now have is their traditional connections and founders. The unique business idea to form a football club is limited to a few businesses, as most clubs are founded through communities or other cultural teams. There are a selection of clubs that have been created in the last few decades, which causes a stir amongst the football traditionalists, although many other lovers encourage the new challenge.

The way in which football teams are created are several, even so some were built by businesses or companies. Most teams have cities or communities associated with their creation, but there are a few that are created by a business. These may have been small businesses when they founded the football teams, but they are today giants in the corporate world. PSV, part of the ‘big three’ in the Dutch league, was built by a Dutch tech giant with current CEO Frans van Houten. What was merely a social idea for a business, is today actually a profitable business idea. When they created the club over a century back, they could not have imagined how important, lucrative and successful the football team they created would end up being.

When creating a business, not many people would have founding a football team in their business plan, yet it is a successful way to acquire a loyal following and inadvertent promotion. Bayer 04 Leverkusen is a German football team that was founded by the company within its name, who are still the owners to this day. The pharmaceutical company is still the primary share holder of the football club, with Werner Baumann at the helm of the company. It is way more common for a corporation to buy a football club rather than found one. It might be an amazing business opportunity to purchase a football club as they

are a tremendous source of revenue, although they are of course very expensive to purchase. The revenue produced by ticket, shirt and player sales is vast, even in comparison to the income of these huge corporate owners. Injecting money into a club can win over the support of the fanbase and highlight your firm to the sporting world in general.
